This is not the first time that Whatsapp has faced such a problem, the last bug of international scope dating back to Tuesday, October 25, 2022. The popular instant messaging application had no longer responded, in many countries, from 8:50 a.m. to 11 a.m. that day. The DownDetector site, which informs about breakdowns and bugs on websites, confirmed the information shortly after 9 a.m. The Whatssap bug concerned the mobile version (Android or iOs application on iPhone) as well as the standard web version. This type of failure is usually reported to Whatsapp technical services very quickly. Around 11:10 a.m., the issue was largely resolved, with access returning to normal for many users.
The Meta group, which owns Whatsapp but also Facebook and Instagram, had communicated an hour after the start of this giant outage: “We are aware that some people are currently having difficulty sending messages and we are working to restore WhatsApp for everyone as quickly as possible, “said a spokesperson for Meta Platforms to the Reuters news agency in the morning.
