[Mis à jour le 18 juillet 2023 à 10h29]This Wednesday, July 19 will be a big day for moviegoers. Spectators can not only experience the film "Barbie" by Greta Gerwig, but also "Oppenheimer" by Christopher Nolan, two very different films but which the Internet had fun contrasting under the affectionate name of "Barbenheimer".
"Oppenheimer" is the last film of the director Christopher Nolanto whom we owe in particular "Inception" Or "The Dark Knight". The filmmaker explores here the complex figure of the creator of the atomic bomb, embodied by Cillian Murphy. The first press reviews, visible a little further down, are dithyrambic and salute a great film by the director. Below, find all the information about the film, including film reviews and information about the true story on which it is based.
Synopsis– "Oppenheimer" is a biopic devoted to Julius Robert Oppenheimer, a brilliant researcher known for having led the creation of the atomic bomb in the United States during the Second World War.
What is the release date of Oppenheimer in France?
Christopher Nolan’s films are always eagerly awaited. "Oppenheimer"is no exception, especially since it comes out at the same time as other summer heavyweights: "mission impossible 7"comes out a week before, and "Barbie"on the same day, resulting in a fun social media rivalry. In France, it will be possible to see "Oppenheimer"from July 19, 2023.
Early reviews of Oppenheimer
On July 11, the film team was present at the Grand Rex in Paris to present the feature film worn by Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. Since then, the first reviews have fallen, and they are dithyrambic: "huge piece of cinema" for Cinemateaser, "A biopic hectic" for Maximilien Pierrette d’Allociné, "Top notch acting and writing" for Florent Boutet of the Bleu du Miroir, the glowing qualifiers rain down to describe "Oppenheimer", a film between thriller and moral human introspection, while summoning Christopher Nolan’s obsessions with space-time. Critics, such as Alexandre Janowiak of Ecran Large, also hail a "sublime sensory experience". The press also salutes the performance of Robert Downey Jr., who would find in this film the best role of his career.
The Oppenheimer movie is inspired by a true story
In 1945 Julius Robert Oppenheimer changed the face of the world. It is to him that we owe the invention of the atomic bomb, a weapon which completely upset the balance of power in the world and which caused a veritable massacre of the population in Japan, Hiroshima and Nagasaki August 6 and 9, 1945. These bombings killed more than 200,000 people. Faced with this tragedy, the scientist denounces the massacre to President Truman and resigns from his post. Accused of sympathizing with the Communists during the Cold War, he was stripped of his security credentials in 1954. He died on February 18, 1967, at only 62 years old.
Why The Oppenheimer Movie Will Be Very Different From Other Nolan Movies
In an interview before the release of"Oppenheimer" on July 19, 2023, Christopher Nolan described the particularities of this explosive feature film. The director of "The Dark Knight"And "Inception"assured that his latest film contains more romance, "much more than this [qu'il]could do so far". The film thus contains "nudity scenes and sex scenes" between Cillian Murphy and Florence Pugh, who plays the former fiancé of the scientist, which the director had never allowed himself to do until then in his filmography. Other differences exist between "Oppenheimer"and the rest of the filmmaker’s filmography, as it will be the director’s longest film, and the first since "insomnia" (2002) to receive ranking "R"synonym of "Restricted" in the USA. This means that minors under 17 must be accompanied by an adult to see the feature film in theaters.
